Following the announcement of the finalists in the SA Car of the Year awards four months ago, the winners have been announced. As motor vehicle brands and enthusiasts across the country awaited the results with bated breath, the official announcement was made on Monday 27 September. It was an exciting moment when the Peugeot 2008 took the crown as the overall winner, as well as nabbing the top spot in the Compact Family category and securing the Jurors Excellence Award.
The South African Car of the Year trophy is notably the most highly regarded and sought-after motoring accolade in the country and has been awarded annually by The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) since 1986. Amid stiff competition such as the Toyota Hilux and the BMW 4 Series (placed second and third respectively), the honour of being awarded overall winner of the SA Car of the Year awards is, without doubt, a tremendous achievement for the French vehicle brand.
The Peugeot 2008 is available in four variants (all 1.2T), namely the Active in both manual and automatic, as well as the Allure and GT variants, both with automatic transmission.
The crossover SUV’s dynamic, bold styling, combined with its versatility and value for money contributed toward the eventual result, highlighting Peugeot’s strength as a leading vehicle manufacturer with an exceptional brand presence.
