The 2021 South African Car of the Year (COTY) trophy was awarded to the striking Peugeot 2008 that launched locally earlier this year with extrovert styling and impressive utility, beating out 23 finalists in the prestigious competition. The competition was organised by the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) since 1986, this is the country’s most respected and sought-after motoring accolade.

Announcing the 2021 SA Car of the Year – Peugeot 2008

Following the announcement of the finalists in the SA Car of the Year awards four months ago, the winners have been announced. As motor vehicle brands and enthusiasts across the country awaited the results with bated breath, the official announcement was made on Monday 27 September. It was an exciting moment when the Peugeot 2008 took the crown as the overall winner, as well as nabbing the top spot in the Compact Family category and securing the Jurors Excellence Award.

The South African Car of the Year trophy is notably the most highly regarded and sought-after motoring accolade in the country and has been awarded annually by The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) since 1986. Amid stiff competition such as the Toyota Hilux and the BMW 4 Series (placed second and third respectively), the honour of being awarded overall winner of the SA Car of the Year awards is, without doubt, a tremendous achievement for the French vehicle brand.
